Reverse Engineering Success: B&R Automation Servo System


NDC ServoLab’s dedicated R&D team have been involved in a Reverse Engineering Project involving B&R Acopos Servo Drives, Servo Motors and Encoders.

Engineers within the plastics and robotic industries will know that these motors are common within the sector, and will be pleased to know that NDC have worked hard to ensure that there is now a repair solution available when a failure occurs. ServoLab’s R&D Manager outlines the problem. "These motors use a digital encoder using the endat 2.2 interface which also has an inbuilt eeprom containing data pertaining to the motor and the drive that enables these motors to run within the B&R system. If this data is programmed incorrectly the motor will not function in the correct way which results in damage to the servo system”. Following ServoLab’s Reverse Engineering Project the R&D team has now successfully programmed the servo system.

A significant amount of resources have been applied to this project and our dedicated ServoLab facility now has the capability to repair, test and programme B&R Servo Motors, Encoders and Acopos Drives within our Rapid, Urgent or Standard Services.
